Kayak Incident

It was our first time Kayaking down the Uwharrie River, and not our last but we did have a very interesting interaction along it.

The interaction had nothing to do with the various fish, possible alligator or HUGE snapping turtles that we encountered along the 12hr ride.

It did however involve us getting major Spidey sense and the hairs on the back of our neck standing straight up to attention. I can honestly say, it made me more aware and scared than some of the times I was in Afghanistan.

It was starting to get dark and we were very tired from the hours of Kayaking down the river. We turned a corner and right away it was as if a shockwave hit us and both felt an immense sense of dread come over us. Right away we both looked at each other and thought something wasn't right. It was shortly after that we noticed a splash in the water ahead and thought it had to be a turtle, until there was another splash. At that point we heard something in the tree line that was 50 yards to our right.

We decided that we should push on and not hang around. As we continued down river, we were making good speed but we keeping hearing something...or someone keeping pace with us through the dense tree line. Eventually we heard nothing and the sense of dread lifted but that wasn't for a good several hundred yards.

We went back a few weeks later hoping to do a little more research but the area where we had the incident was also the only area that had 'Private Property' signs all over it. In respect for the land owners, we did not venture further. The mystery will always be there....
